INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO VERKA MILK PLANT MOHALI

Industrial visit was organized by Chandigarh College of Hospitality CGC, Landran with students of B.Sc. (Honors) Nutrition and Dietetics. The chosen destination was the Verka Milk Plant in Mohali, which is well-known for its high-quality dairy products.

The visit began with a warm welcome by the senior executive Ms. Sonali at Verka Milk Plant, who was eager to share their knowledge and experiences with the aspiring students. The students were divided into two groups, allowing them to explore different sections of the plant simultaneously. The first stop was the milk processing area, where the students witnessed the various stages involved in milk production. They observed the reception of raw milk, its testing for quality and purity, and the pasteurization process that ensures the elimination of harmful bacteria. The students were captivated by the sight of the huge stainless-steel tanks and advanced machinery used for milk processing.

Next, the students moved on to the section dedicated to the production of traditional Indian desserts, specifically kheer. Another highlight of the visit was the curd and lassi making fermentation area. The students observed the fermentation process and the special cultures used to produce thick and creamy curd. They also learned about the significance of temperature control and hygiene standards in ensuring the quality and taste of the final product.

The visit concluded with a tour of the packaging units, where the students witnessed the careful and efficient packaging of the milk, kheer, curd, and lassi. They learned about the importance of proper labeling, storage, and transportation to maintain the freshness and integrity of the dairy products.

Overall, the visit to Verka Milk Plant in Mohali was a highly informative and enriching experience for the students of Chandigarh College of Hospitality CGC Landran.
