Those present on the occasion included S Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC, S Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC and others. The college working under the aegis of Chandigarh Group of Colleges has been celebrating the World Tourism Day for the last four years on 27th September every year to inculcate the spirit for spreading appeal for tourism development among students. S Satnam Sigh Sandhu and S Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal addressing the students on the occasion said that tourism is a fast growing sector and is now playing a big part in the growth of economy of various nations in the world. They said that the purpose of celebrations is to display awareness that tourism is vital to the international community and to show how it affects the social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. Worldwide, Travel and Tourism is expected to grow at a level of 4.3 per cent per year over the next ten years, creating an opportunity for every country in the world to be a part of this process and to share the benefits, they added. With three more airports coming to Punjab in near future the growth of tourism is imminent, said Mr Kamal Piyush, Director, Chandigarh College of Hospitality. He said that there are greater opportunities for the growth of tourism today than ever and we have a challenge for competing with the world with the opening up of markets. Jagvir Kaur a student of the department made the students aware about various tourist destinations in the country with their description. Another student of the department Loveleen introduced the students present to Indian Railways and its contribution to the development of tourism in the country. Gagandeep Sharma introduced the students to the concept of rural economy and rural tourism which he said needs lots of attention as it has a lot of potential for growth in a country like ours. |
